Jen started riding at 2 years old and began her show career at the age of 5. Her parents, trained Thoroughbred Race Horses for the South Florida Racing Circuit.
At the age of 7, she began to show consistently in the SFHJA circuit. By the age of 9, Jen was retraining retired racehorses for shows and resale. She fell in love working with young, green, misunderstood, and difficult horses; and relished in watching them progress day by day until reaching their full potential.
Over the years Jen took time to learn several different riding disciplines in an effort to give each horse the best start possible. She started with Dressage and took lessons under Rick Albertson, Bridget Boland, Jerry Caprio, and many others. She also trained in Hunter/Jumper under the tutelage of Julie Aitken, Allen Krotkin, Tina Rousher, Jimmy Toronto, to name a few.
By the age of 14, Jen was juggling school, galloping racehorses, and showing hunter's. At 16, she began working at Oakridge Farm in South Florida, breaking and training Dutch Warmbloods, and introducing them to the show ring for the Wellington Circuit.
At the age of 18, her parents convinced her of the merits of being a female jockey, and she rode the East Coast; specifically, Florida, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Texas.
In 1997, Jen was injured at Philly Park and took a year off to work as an assistant trainer at Calder Race Course. By 1999, she was back to riding racehorses until in 2000 when her 5-year jockey career came to a close. Since then Jennifer has two lovely children, Taylor and Chase. Also in 2000 Jen started a Hunter/Jumper training/show facility called Taylor Made Equine where she continues to show Hunters/Jumpers, Dressage, train horses, and give lessons.
Jen's fist year of showing one of her project horses in Texas, Heart Breaker (Romeo), they won the Hunter/Jumper Pre-Green Champion Year-End Award in 2004.
She moved back to Florida in 2006 and restarted her business on her own. That is how Pleasant Oaks Equestrian Center came about. After a couple of months P.O.E.C. became a very successful full training and show facility. Where we do Hunter/Jumpers, Dressage, and camp.
Jennifer has a passion for teaching and a great understanding for unity between horse and rider.
"I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity of working with a wide variety of students who could be motivated in a positive manner. My programs have not only allowed me to help them become successful riders, but have helped my students to grow as responsible individuals.
I have always maintained a healthy relationship not only with my students but also with their parents. This type of relationship has lead to my being not only a good instructor but a mentor as well."
In July of 2008 Jennifer and her two children moved to Georgia to start a new life with Jen's boyfriend of two years, Sam.
Pleasant Oaks Equestrian Center has gained a new opportunity to get to know Middle Georgia.
